Hey,
I am using bsnl nokia siemens c2110 modem for ethernet through a lan cable. Everytime I open my ubuntu 11.10, it shows wired connection established. but i am not able to browse any site through firefox.
Please help.

Hi Prash Babu,

I have a UTStarcom WA3002G4 modem. BSNL have configured this as Automatic dialer mode. I need to turn on my wirelss now but I am not able to access my router using http://192.168.1.1
Also, I am not able to connect other computer/laptop to other ethernet interfaces on the router. They simply don't come up.

On my desktop, there is a ppp adapter broadband connection with default gateway 218.248.255.139
and an ethernet adapter with no default gateway!

Hence I am not sure of what needs to be done. Could you please help me with this one?

My ethernet and wifi used to work perfectly, managed by NetworkManager.

I downloaded and installed a whole bunch of .deb update files on Nov 7, and ethernet has not worked since, and wifi takes 10 or 15 minutes to connect. Now I see that the file /etc/NetworkManager/nm-system-settings.conf simply does not exist. I think it used to.

In Ubuntu 11.10, you restart Samba like this:

sudo service smbd restart
sudo service nmbd restart

You can always replace "restart" with "start" or "stop" if needed (without quotes of course).

Used to have a Beetel 440TXI wi-fi router from airtel. changed over to BSNL dataone broadband and same router. sites like yahoo mail took ages to open, and login never used to happen.
Changed to Open DNS servers and changed MRU from 1492 to 1452.
It works!! Kudos!

This is an awesome tutorial... I know this is an old post.. but I need a bit of help.. and I am running out of ideas..

I am running ubuntu 11.04 and remote desktop is enabled. I downoaded apache2 as instructed and I have also tried the Jar vnc viewer listed as well as the new one.

The problem is... while on the lan.. the index.html page is able to acess the ubuntu server fine.

Once I try to hit the machine from the wan side it won't work.. I have port forwarded 5900 to the specific IP Etc.. I have also put the ubuntu server in the DMZ in my router as well.

However if I use the jar file on the Wan side.. and skip the apache server on the server side.. the jar on the client works just fine..

What am I missing? It seems to be in the apache2 config.. and how it relates to wan IP's..
